Nero Now its a waiting game

So far I'm back to using Nero6 and so far InCD is working even after downloading all the updates. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I also sent them a nasty letter outlining all the troubles I had with Nero7.
Ok more criticism. After cruising Nero's website I discovered a posting for a fix they blame on WindowsXP SP2 patch. My criticism is why did I have to hunt for it in the first place? Actually I found it quite by accident. Al right, why didn't they put it on the update page in the first place? That is where it should have been all along. Not in some obscure FAQ burried on some question and answer page.
Hey I'm a geek too. At least when I find an important flaw that effects a program I use all the time, I will put out a prominent notice about it and a work around or a fix if there is one. Thirty-one years as a service tech taught me that most people are not as tech savy as I am. Far from it. In fact most are barely able to use cumouters, let alone know what to do when they misbehave.
The moral? Redesign the site and put all the upgrades on the same page and it if there is a big problem put it up near the top in big type so we can see it. Believe me, you will have a lot more happy customers. Oh yeah, change that stupid pricing policy. I don't want to pay $70 up front and wait for a rebate a couple of days later. That is so yesterday.
Ain't that the truth?

Uh Oh Another Ripoff - Nero Tech Support

You're gonna love this. I had Nero6 and it worked fine, then out comes Nero7 Ultra so I figure that this is better. Wrong! upon installing the program and using it for a while I notice that the thing is buggy I mean that certain parts of it sudenly disappear or stop working or I get an error message that it has performed an illegal action and needs to terminate. I'm now getting frustrated so I click on the Change program option and then click on the repair option. No success. Then I notice that it didn't install InCD which was part of the older version of Nero. Again I go back tothe change option selection and it goes through a bunch of screens where I finally get to a screen where I can install this feature. That doesn't work. So I try it again. Frustrated I put in the tutorial CD and find out that you have to uncheck the Dutch language Box before you proceed to the next screen. I repeat the process and all goes well. I'm happy. By this time I'm ready for bed so I shut the machine down for the night.
The next morning I boot up the machine and the little Icon for InCD is missing form the system tray. I try using a CD RW disk but I can't copy files to it nor will it act as a giant floppy disk. Again I go through the process of reinstalling InCD to no avail. I'm getting mad at this point so I uninstall Nero7 or so I think.
Guess what Boys and girls, it leaves little bits of itself in the registry. The uninstall program DOES NOT take all of this garbage out of the system. Now you have to remember that I build and repair computers and provide IT support as a business. i just went for Linux+ certification. I think I know what I'm doing.
The next logical step it to call for Technical Help from Nero. They should be able to solve the problem. I call and the prerecorded message says that I must pay $1.29 per minute for tech support when the Tech person answers the phone. Total charge goes up to 59 minuts maximum. First call no helpm. They say they will email instructions to solve the problem. Sasid promised email never arrives so I call back thinking that they misspelled something and I spell it out likt they do in the Army Signal Corps. Still no email. I call back a third time with no luck. LTo top this all off I'm talking to someone who barely speaks english well enough for us to understand each other never mind solve any technical problems.
Here's the kicker, they charge the full amount to your phone bill when you call, not at the rate of $1.29 per minute. They charge instead $70.99 to your phone bill. You don't know how pissed off I am at this point. I call the regualr service desk and they explain that they charge the full amount first and then deduct the actual minuts within three or so days. THAT STINKS.
Needless to say I have come to the conclusion that I can no longer recommend Nero7 to anyone. In my opinion the program is badly written, buggy and jsut not worth it. I also think that the Tech Help charges are a gigantic RipOff.
Of coursse that is my humble opinion. Take it for what it is worth.
